DID YOU KNOW…
Albert Emil Fredrik Holmqvist was born on 19 September 1872. The parents were the saddle maker Johan Edvard Holmqvist (1837–1879) and Maria Nilsson (1848–1894).
Albert became manager and married Julie Tora Krüger (1878–1969) on 29 May 1903. Julie's parents were the lessee and German-born Carl Gustav Adolph Krüger (1828–1902) and the Danish Carolina Maria Sörensen (1841- ).
Albert and Julie have 6 children in the years 1904 to 1920. Daughter Birgit Olga Holmqvist (1911–1973) is born in Trelleborg. Birgit becomes a model and, among other things, is the model for the sculpture "Famntaget" (Embraced) by Axel Ebbe, which was erected in 1929-1930 at the restaraung Solfjädern in Trelleborg's harbour. It was later moved to Smygehamn when the restaurant was demolished.
At the age of 23, she meets the divorced German Baron and businessman Friedrich Karl von Schlebrügge (1886 – 1954). The couple married in Germany in 1935. Friedrich was previously married to a Swedish woman and had a daughter who moved to Stockholm.
Friedrich and Birgit move to Mexico before the war and there the son Björn (1937 – 2008) and Birgitte Caroline "Nena" are born in 1941. Nena is already discovered by Vogue at the age of 14 and becomes a hired and famous top model during the 50s and 60s. In 1967, Nena meets the writer and academic in Tibetan Buddhism Robert Thurman.
The couple had four children in the late 60s and early 70s. Among other things, the daughter Uma Karuna Thurman is born in Boston Massachusetts.
Uma needs no further introduction, other than to really underline what an amazingly talented and wonderful actress she is. And that she is very curious and interested in her Swedish roots.
